Custom HDRI Backgrounds for Surface Analysis in Gravity Sketch

If you have ever wanted to analyze surfaces in Gravity Sketch VR, finding HDRI's that enable you to do that has been quite tricky.

Sure, there are tons of HDRI's out there of cool environments and beautiful sky's. But most of them were designed for different purposes.

None of them were designed specifically to look great and help you work more efficiently in Gravity Sketch.

This set of HDRI maps was created specifically to help YOU be able to analyze surface quality right inside of Gravity Sketch. No more searching the internet looking for random HDRI's that may or may not help you make better surfaces.

This is the ONLY pack of HDRI images you need to help you analyze surfaces and improve overall surface quality.

This pack includes over 40 HDRI environments custom designed to work in Gravity Sketch. Each HDRI is available in 4k and 2k resolutions depending on your setup. Each Environment helps you analyze surfaces in different ways, from using stripes to find irregularities and judge reflections, to using soft gradients to tell how surfaces look in more natural environments.

Instructions on how to use:

• Once you purchase the HDRI Set, click the download link to download the zipped file.
• Extract the zip file to your desired location on your computer (this can be the downloads folder if you want).
• Inside the main folder you will find two folders, one containing 4k resolution images, and one containing 2K resolution images. IMPORTANT: If you want to work standalone, only use the 2K images, as they have much smaller file sizes.
• FOR TETHERED USERS: Open up a new file explorer window and navigate to /Douments/GravitySketch/HDRs. Then simply copy over the HDRI's from the downloaded folder into the HDRs folder. When you go to the HDRI images in Gravity Sketch you will have access to the new HDRI images.
• FOR STANDALONE USERS: Open your web browser and navigate to Landingpad.me and login. Then open you downloaded folder with the HDRI's. Again I recommend using the 2K images. Drag and drop the HDRI images you wish to use into landing pad. Keep in mind that for most landingpad users your available space is 1GB of space, and most of the 2K images are around 5MB in size, so only upload the images you want to use.
• When in Gravity Sketch go to settings> Workspace and then go down to the HDRI slider. Slide it all the way to the right, and then choose the location of the files. From there you can use the dropdown to load any of the new HDRI files.
• Last but not least, have fun analyzing your surfaces, and PLEASE send feedback and requests if you have them.
  
  

Licensing and Versions:

There are 3 versions that can be purchased:

Indie License:
This is intended for individual designers, freelancers and anyone who wants to use these files for their own work. All files can be used for personal, educational and commercial work, however the indie license means that the original purchaser is the sole user of these files. The indie license does not grant the purchaser rights to redistribute, share or sell these files.

Enterprise License:
The Enterprise License is for companies and design teams that wish to use this pack in their professional workflows, and have the possibility to share and distribute the files contained in this pack among team members. The enterprise license grants companies the rights for up to 15 users per license. The enterprise license does not grant the purchaser the right to share these files outside of the enterprise, or sell these files.

Education Institution License:
The Education Institution License is intended for educators and education institutions who are teaching Gravity Sketch and wish to use these files to help enable students to work better. This license is intended for student work however students may use these files during internships or apprenticeships. The Education Institution License grants the use for up to 50 students per license. Have more than 50 students? Get in touch and we can figure out a fair rate.

The Education Institution License does not grant the original purchasing education institution the rights to share files outside of the institution, or sell these files.

With over 1500 hours of App usage, I know Gravity Sketch quite well, and as a consultant I consulted with over 50 companies during my years at Gravity Sketch. FAQ:

What are these for?
These HDRI's are intended to work and optimized for use in Gravity Sketch. While you can certainly use them in other software applications such as Keyshot and Blender, the were specifically designed and tested for use with Gravity Sketch.

They were created to help make it easier to create better surfaces inside of Gravity Sketch. While the workspace panel inside gravity sketch gives users some control over their environments, the included HDRI's lack many options that help enable designers to fully understand surfaces. Since you can upload and use your own HDRI environments, this pack was designed primarily for surface analysis.

Who can use these?
Any Gravity Sketch user can use these. Please take a look a the different licensing options before purchasing.

What headsets are they compatible with?
These work inside of Gravity Sketch however it is important to note that there are two primary ways of working with Gravity Sketch - Tethered and Untethered or Standalone.

If you are working with a standalone headset such as an Oculus Quest, Pico, Vive Focus/ Elite, you will want to upload the 2K images to your landingpad.me account.

It is also important to keep in mind that rendering on standalone headsets appears different than when tethered, so your results may vary depending on your setup.

All preview images were created using a tethered headset setup.

Can you use these with other programs such as KeyShot and Blender?

These are full equirectangular HDRI images, and as such you can use them in any program that supports HDRI image environments. That said, these have been rendered out only at 2k and 4k resolutions to be optimized for use with Gravity Sketch. Some programs will create better renderings with 6K or 8K resolutions. If you would like high resolution images feel free to contact me and I can create one for you.
